Mr. Obama addressed the Democratic National Convention this last Saturday reinvigorating his commitment to pass Health-care legislation. “Let me be clear: I am not going to walk away from health reform,” Obama said and the room erupted in a standing ovation. Health-care is definably something that deserves attention and most in this Nation agree the system needs reform. While it is far from broken, there are 10,000,000 people in this country right now who go without insurance due to either economic limitations or pre-existing conditions.
These people need our help but a more pressing issue seems to be getting the back burner. The unemployment rate, although reported to be slowly improving, is astronomically high. There are over 15,000,000 people in this nation that need work but can’t find it. Without work, these people can’t provide food, a home or security for their children and spouses. Without a job most are forced to rely on food stamps and limited unemployment benefits.
Is it the fallback of welfare which is causing this President to concentrate on a 90% dead set of bills that his party has been trying to pass for the better part of 60 years or does he just not care enough to do something about it?
I firmly believe he is not a stupid man and must see that the only jobs he has created either provide nothing tangible to the economy or are purely temporary infrastructure jobs. There have never, in the history of this nation,
been so many civil service employees as there are today, topping over 2 million. Mr. Obama plays a lot of lip service to stimulating this or that and throwing money here or there to “create and or save” jobs for American’s but, pardon my indulgence, where’s the beef?!
When are we going to see any meaningful improvement? Most of the gains over the last 30 days are attributed to individuals either running out of unemployment insurance benefits or simply just giving up the search altogether and joining the millions now resorting to public assistance to feed their families. The actual number of people out of work is closer to 18% when you include those no longer able to collect unemployment. Where’s the Hope and Change promised on the campaign trail?
It’s your economy so lets just drop the blame Bush rhetoric right here and now and do us a favor, lets back-burner Health-care and work on creating jobs that are meaningful and last longer than it takes to repair a bridge or build a road. Where’s the beef, Mr. President?

Nicely done, Jay.
Can you find a clip of Cora Whatshername from the old Wendy’s commercial? Maybe on YouTube or….?

I should find that clip and superimpose Sarah Palin’s head over hers. Now THAT would be FUNNY!

The White House plan to create jobs is just another spending bill to bring in more people to government jobs and also give these unions more money in their pocket. Where are these infrastructure jobs going to go? Obviously the unions will be able to pick up MOST of them, and for way more than someone else could do it for. This is a double whammy. We spend more on the jobs that will end in time, and the unions become stronger because of it. I have no doubt that was the President’s and the Congress’s plan from the beginning.
What the Democrats will not tell the people about ALL of these government jobs that have been created and the LONG term effects of it. You know these people who got these jobs will not give them up. We NEVER see the government on the federal level give up jobs, only add them. So these people will be there for the long haul. That means they get federal benefits and a federal retirement package, which is a very nice package. This is what the people will have to pay for. All that Barack Obama and the Congress are doing is adding fuel to the fire, and many years down the road we will have the same types of problems we do right now.

Well Said, Shawn. I agree 110%. The man who claimed to want to change how things are done in Washington is doing a pretty damn good job of keeping things as they have been since the days of Wilson.

The lady from the Wendy’s advertisements was Clara Peller (1902-1987). She starred in those commercials in 1984 (remember the Mac ad from the Superbowl that year?) and died in 1987; Only a few short years later. She also had a role in the film “Moving Violations” which also featured John Murray (Bill Murray’s brother), Jennifer Tilly and Wendie Jo Sperber (1958-2005).

HA! I haven’t thought about that movie in ages! Isn’t that the one where the blind old lady proclaims that she doesn’t like the new styled toilets in the restroom and finds herself sitting in a urinal in the mens’ room?!
Loved that flick. “Blood flows RED on the highway.”
